Expected Developmental Milestones

  • Rolls from back to stomach
  • Sits unaided
  • Crawls on hands and knees
  • Pulls up to a standing position
  • Makes purposeful arm and leg movements - e.g. moves to pick up toy and then spends time actively playing with it.

Parents should be concerned if (amongst other factors)

  • The child usually 'bottom-shuffles' and either does not go through the crawling stage or passes through very quickly
  • The child cannot sit unaided at 9 - 12 months
  • High levels of motor activity
  • Repetitive arm and hand movements
  • Additional repetitive head movements - 'rolling' and 'banging'
